CertiTrain – European Trainers’ Training and Certification
„Train-the-Trainer“ programmes and associated certification for trainers in continous VET is not regulated in most of the European countries. Therefore competence requirements and „train-the-trainer“ programmes vary considerably for CVET trainers within EU-28 and their transparency remains difficult.

„Train-the-Trainer“ programmes and associated certification for trainers in continous VET is not regulated in most of the European countries. Therefore competence requirements and „train-the-trainer“ programmes vary considerably for CVET trainers within EU-28 and their transparency remains difficult.
In most member states „train-the-trainer“ programmes, competence profiles and if available certification are defined on sectoral or company level but not on a national level which makes the comparison of „train-the-trainer“ programmes and their respective competences difficult on European level. Furthermore, this hinders participation of CVET trainers in European mobility programmes.
The CertiTrain partnership project made an attempt to learn more about training requirements and certification procedures for trainers working in the field of CVET in the participating countries. The project intended to map the state-of-the-art of train the trainer programmes and certification in the participating countries. Furthermore, the partnership organized and collected the need for a European training and certification scheme via an online survey open to CVET actors in Europe.
Aims and objectives of the partnership were:
- to gather and compare existing qualification profiles of CVET trainers in the countries part of the LdV-partnership
- to evaluate the possibility of standardizing competence requirements for CVET trainers on European level
- to define common competence areas for CVET trainers that are expected by CVET trainers in the participating countries and identified along core work tasks. These competence areas could build the basis for a trainer competence matrix and a certification procedure that could be developed in a future project.
