2016 update of the ‘European Inventory on the Validation of non-formal and informal Learning’

The purpose of this assignment was to consolidate and update the information on the ‘European Inventory of Validation of non-formal and informal Learning’.

2. February 2015

The purpose of this assignment was to consolidate and update the information on the ‘European Inventory of Validation of non-formal and informal Learning’.

The European Inventory has been published in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2014 collecting information on validation practices in member states and other European countries in order to support decision makers and practitioners. This 2016 update collected information for 32 countries and built on the latest version that takes into account the principles outlined in the 2012 Council Recommendation on validation of non-formal and informal learning.

In addition, this project also aimed at further connecting the inventory to the ‘European Guidelines on Validation’. The Guidelines are intended as a practical tool, providing expert advice for the implementation of validation arrangements.
A first version of the Guidelines was published in 2009 and it was  being reviewed during the second half of 2014.
The 2016 update built on the new guidelines. The study included also insights on specific themes of interest in the area of validation through thematic studies. The project was coordinated by ICF.

3s staff members were involved as country experts for Austria, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic and contributed to a thematic study.
