The three-year Erasmus+ project “ECVET-Lab” was successfully concluded with a final conference in Brussels on 20 September 2018.
“ECVET-Lab” stands for “Environmental Testing Laboratories” and dealt with the central challenge of developing an online training module to promote sustainable laboratory practices in environmental laboratories and to enable the recognition and validation of the necessary competences.
In the 4th and last newsletter, the most important project results, which were also presented in Brussels, are discussed once again. The project consortium of seven partners, representing 25 different countries, developed:
- a ” Guide of Best Practices on Environmental Management in Labs“,
- a ” Profile of Professional competences for Environmental Testing and Sciences Laboratory Technicians”,
- and the ” E.CO LAB TECHNICIAN Course“.
The guide contains 42 best-practice examples of best environmental laboratory practice on the 9 subject areas: the use of chemicals, waste management, energy management, water management, other resources, noise, air emissions, wastewater and environmental management systems.
The examples have been published on the ECVET Lab website (http://ecvetlab.projectsgallery.eu/) in English, Spanish, Polish and Greek. The Professional Competence Profile for Environmental Examiners and Laboratory Technicians describes the minimum requirements (knowledge, skills, competences) for working in an environmental science laboratory.
The ECO LAB TECHNICIAN training module was validated both internally within the project consortium and externally by laboratory technicians, universities and vocational training centres.
