10. January 2013

Since 2010 3s Unternehmensberatung supports the European Commission (DG Employment und DG Education and Culture) in the development of ESCO, the European Skills/Competences, qualifications and Occupations taxonomy, and it will intensify its contribution in 2013.

The European Commission is coordinating, in collaboration with stakeholders, the development of ESCO, the only European multilingual taxonomy linking skills and competences to occupations and qualifications. ESCO will be available free of charge to all labor market and education institutions, and other interested parties in 30 EEA (European Economic Area) countries by 2017.

The first version of ESCO, based on the structure of ISCO and ISCED, and introduced in the course of a European Conference in 2010, contains 6,000 skills and 5,000 occupations.

Since 2010, 3s Unternehmensberatung has implemented several research and development projects in the context of the development of ESCO for the European Commission and it will intensively support the Commission in 2013. In early summer 2013 an updated version of ESCO (version 0, v0) shall be published. This version will include new occupations and skills (also ‘transversal’ skills and competences such as team work, communication, and interpersonal skills) and first samples of international qualifications. 3s contributes to the creation of ESCO v0 by bringing in its know-how in developing multilingual and national taxonomies for occupations and skills/competences and sharing the experiences and the content developed in the context of the DISCO II project between November 2010 and October 2012.
