3rd EXPECT Peer Learning Activity on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in VET

In the framework of the Erasmus+ project “EXPECT”, the third PLA on the implementation of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in European vocational education and training took place on 31 May with the participation of 3s. This time the focus was on Spain.

As usual, the Spanish project partner from the Basque Country put a presentation of the Spanish VET system in connection with the “Agenda 2030 of the Basque Country” at the beginning of the PLA. An interesting example of the role of municipalities in achieving climate goals was offered by the mayor of the municipality of Zamudio. He presented the municipality’s innovative digital approaches to a „Smart city“ and to improving its sustainability goals and resource management / waste recycling. The event continued with the presentation of concrete activities (good practices) by the vocational school Politeknika Ikastegia Txorierri for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) The school has set the goal of reducing the consumption of water, paper, toner and energy as well as improving waste management and raising the environmental awareness of students and teaching staff.

Afterwards, the project “WorkLAN Social Lab” for the promotion of “Social Economy” was presented. It tries to connect students, teachers, companies and experts from different fields in order to prepare for future challenges such as climate change. Important topics are the development of new ideas and approaches in the fields of circular economy, renewable energies, electromobility and social healthcare. At the end of the event, a student from the TKNIKA vocational school reported on his personal experience of participating in a course on “Environmental Control and Education”.

At the next EXPECT PLA on 21 November 2021, the focus will be on the United Kingdom and how the SDGS are taught and implemented in vocational education and training there.
